Hi! I'm Emlynn McDermott, but you can call me Emmy. Thank you for visiting my site. I am an international award-winning author of contemporary fiction, so if you like to read, why not take a moment to look around?
Here I am, pretending to catch fish
I'm an avid reader and started writing stories, poetry, and even a short book when I was a child. Now, I write almost every day. You might wonder why I don't have more books published. Let's just say I'm working on it!
I also like to fish. Most of the time I don't catch anything, so I say I'm "pretending to fish." Make-believe is fun, but little tops a real tug on my line. That's me in the next photo, holding the biggest fish I ever caught.
I cook often and enjoy trying out new recipes from other countries—the more authentic, the better. I also love to make old-fashioned "comfort food" and baked goods. My favorite meals sometimes appear in my novels.
Natural springs. I really love natural springs. Where I used to live, the springs were hot—I mean, scalding. Here in Florida, we're all about the magnitude, as in how much water flows through the spring. Our largest springs discharge almost 65 million gallons each day. In case you're wondering, discharge is a technical term. Isn't Mother Nature amazing?
Hand-crafted jewelry. I used to design a lot of jewelry. I even had a studio with a kiln so that I could create one-of-a-kind pieces from fine silver. These days, I have less space and instead admire the work of other artisans, but who knows when that might change? In the meantime, I think I'll incorporate a cool hobby into one of my books.
Technology. Who doesn't like shiny new things? I like to play with all the latest gadgets. But more than that, I like to think about their impact on our lives. How we create new technology, and how it changes us and our society. You'll find that theme in some of my books.
